3Fidi 3rd & 4th

Craig and I did the B-grade crit in another warm evening.
There were probably about 12 in the grade and it started fairly relaxed for a lap before the pace increased, during the first half there were numerous break attempts without success. It felt like it wasn’t going to be possible to get away.

I didn’t feel in top form with my cold but was still able to hang around the front of the bunch a bit together with Craig and about 3 others willing enough to do some work.

Finally just after Craig did a big turn and stretched the bunch, into a out-of-breath flock of sheep, I jumped out with another guy and with Craig throttling back, we got a break before the bunch realised Craig had let go of the bungie strap and a nice large gap had formed. “Oh shit! There’s a break” is what Craig heard when they finally realised… hehehe.

One other guy managed to come across and the 3 of us worked well with the chasing bunch unable to make inroads on the gap prepared earlier by Craig, who was now relaxing at the back juicing up his legs for later in the race.

As Craig worked out there was no way the chasing bunch had enough power to get up to the break he decided to have a go just as Nick Boylan was also thinking of going…. “Jump on the bus!” said Craig and the two of them started there journey into the void, Craig soon blew Nick off his back wheel and then Craig was left on his own to head toward the leaders. As I realised Craig was on his own and trying to get across I backed off the power and after working out that I had enough laps left, before the finish, I dropped back from the leaders to go and get Craig.

I managed to get Craig back up to the leaders at 3 laps to go to the finish, 3Fidi worked as a team to try and tire out the competition but on the last lap one of the other guys had enough of a kick left in him to go on his own 3/4 of a lap out. Craig dropped back and I tried to get back to the leader, taking with me the 4th man. I ran out of power 1/2 a lap to the finish and rolled over the line in 3rd with Craig back in 4th.

John rode the C-grade, result???
