Arrived to the crits last night a little on the late side and had to rush to assemble the bike from my car boot.
Just as I rolled away from the car I realised that I had only 50psi in the back tyre, and no time to change it… bugger, I decided to see if it would last the race.
As soon as I jumped on my bike the a-grade rolled off the line, so I had to cross-country it from the car park to chase the bunch (didn’t want to miss a lap).
I was really happy to have the stronger wheels (only reason I did the cycle-cross start 🙂
Took me a lap to get on the back of the bunch and then another lap to get my gloves on, all the while floating a little around the corners with the soft back tyre.
Craig arrived even later and joined in the bunch on lap 3, after being told he was not to attack for at least 5 minutes.
A few laps later and a few concerned calls later from fellow riders about the flat tyre … “Hey , I think your back tyre has a puncture”, “yeah, yeah, I know it is flat!” x3 …. , I managed to get in the right break, the first break that has stayed away from the a-grade bunch in some weeks.
I felt pretty good but was sucked of some kicking power by the increased rolling resistance… damn.
I still managed to get a second place… woohoo!
No idea on averages, as I didn’t have time to mount or switch on the Garmin.
BTW: Craig took 2nd on Sundays road race… excellent work! More than 35km/h average.
