Who would have thought that the rain would be the least of our worries for Sunday? On Saturday evening a gale swept through the South Coast taking out the Red Bull tent and some large trees. The race would have turned into an epic with the lead riders requiring additional sponsorship from Stihl to make a track through the forest. Even getting to the start required a detour because of the closed roads. The original start time was cancelled with a regroup at 10:30 and a revised race start time of 12:30. The Angry Doctor was reduced to 40kms and the 50k’s to a 20km sprint.
At the last minute another tree nearly took out Sue from GU so the course changed again to laps of the fire trail underneath the powerlines just to the west of Mogo. The gun fired with the diehards doing battle with granny gear climbs then flat out descents, up down up down. Somehow we ended up going the wrong way…..so when we got back to Mogo all bets were off and our short afternoon outing was postponed with raffle tickets being distributed to see who could win some of the great prizes. I didn’t win a 29 Cannondale SS so I guess I will have to buy one.
Thanks to AROC for doing their best. I am sure we will be back next year.
