Stromlo Rocky Trail

Rusty and Greg had an enjoyable day out at Stromlo. Rusty 3rd 100 k’s; Greg 2nd 100 miler. The first lap in the dark was the best watching the sun come up. Worst lap was the fourth.

There is a Fine Line between Pleasure and Pain.

Stage 3 : Courchevel – Alpe d’Huez

Today I went places that I have never been before. The head and heart suffered with a day of intense heat and three Beyond Category climbs thrown in the mix. The first climb up the Col de la Madeleine (1993m) was long but the grade is quite reasonable so I could tap it out. After the summit a 20km descent with some technical corners led down into the valley floor where it felt like the hair dryer was on.  Now the Col de Glandon at  1924m, What starts out as a reasonable gradient then inclines to a brutal 12% for the last few k’s. Then another long descent into the last valley. And now for Le Alpe de Huez at  1860m. The approach was on a side ride joining bend 6 of the tradition TdF course. The heat was oppressive and thanks to the locals showering us with their garden hoses I managed to cross the finish line totally exhausted. John also made the cut off time.

Today we ride to the bottom of AdH and then turn around and ride back up the against the clock. I don’t think Lance’s time is under threat.

Shut up legs.
