Well on Easter Monday, inspired by Boonen’s win and fueled by a large helping of the kid’s chocolate I set off on a solo ride to Yass (with the promise of more chocolate and cake as my prize).  I headed out on a reverse Gravier and was about to take the turn to down East Tallengadra Lane towards Sutton, but instead pressed straight ahead, on the dirt road. I don’t if other fidis have chosen this route in the past but the dirt is really not too bad. There is some loose gravel and a couple of descents you might want to take easy but no evil pot holes that I saw and its generally in much smoother, better condition than I have ever known the small section of Gravier we normally ride. Its about 5km long and cuts out a good portion of Sutton road, bringing you out only about 4km from the junction with Shingle Hill Way or 5km from Murrumbateman Road – my chosen direction. I’d certainly ride it again, and if you’re not too precious about dust on your roadie or fragile wheels I reckon its worth a go sometime, if only to spend less time avoiding the utes on Sutton Road.
