Both Rusty and I went out and started the Chocolate-Foot 7 hour race at
Stromlo (26th June).
The temperature was at a balmy -4 at 7am so it was hard to work out what
to wear starting the event. Only a couple of laps later and all you
needed was some arm warmers.
We started together, at the back of the field, and rolled with the
traffic through the single tracks, making up a little ground anywhere we
could.
The main aim was to ride as long as I could, seeing how under powered I
have been since beginning of May, both of us stayed together for 6 laps
keeping a steady pace, then on lap 7 my lower back got too sore and my
legs too empty to continue. Rusty kept going to complete the 7hrs+.
After getting back to the transition I had time to have a crappy coffee
(was very nice to have anything not sweet) and I checked what our times
were during the first 7 laps. Seemed that after the slow 1st lap we were
riding around 10th in the Masters, then worked our way up to 3rd/4th
after 6 laps.
My 7th lap suddenly saw me drop 12 minutes, and Rusty stayed pretty well
in 4th place Masters (although he entered in open and came 13th there…
silly!)
